Fall 2020
Soldiers Memorial/Arch Downtown
St. Louis, Missouri.
For those wishing to march we will do so at 12PM/Noon (CST)
Meet at the Flag pole across from the Old Courthouse in Luther Ely
Square (it's #5 on the Maps page if you zoom in the area, side of
Luther Ely closest to the Old Courthouse) we'll meet there at Noon/12pm
to walk towards Soldiers Memorial down Chestnut to Soldiers Memorial
then around down Market street heading back towards Smith Square, march
across and around the Arch, return flags to truck near park and meet in
designated area.
HQ/Main Staging area: Luther Ely Smith Square at the flag pole at
12pm, 12-3pm.
For those not familiar with the area,
Luther Ely Smith park sits in-between the Old Courthouse and the Arch,
to the left of the park/square is the Hyatt Regency hotel, and to the
right is the KMOV building and it goes onto the St. Louis Arch Grounds
as well. There is a more detailed
map, address and so forth but this is the location for those who've
never heard of it before, on the Maps page it says "Smith Square" you
can see the Old Courthouse and the Arch, Luther Ely Smith Square sits
in-between the 2, it's on Federal property. The Hyatt is on one side of
it, KMOV Channel 4 building and Drury is on the other side, it's not
far from Busch Stadium. There's parking on the streets, Kiener East
garage and East garage at Busch stadium are close, and there's many
places to park around the city.
Veterans United March is a nonpartisan/grassroots event being held Saturday, October 6th 2018 at Luther Ely Smith square in Downtown St. Louis (between the Old Courthouse and the Arch) Missouri. The march/walk will start at 12pm, for those unable to walk that far but who are still wanting to attend we encourage you to bring your lawn chairs if needed. There are some benches scattered throughout the park as well as around the new circular fountain near the Arch museum entrance. Everyone is welcome to participate, you do not have to be a veteran to attend. We are hoping to bring public awareness and attention to issues affecting veterans, military, and their families, while also providing information as an outreach to help one-another.

The
march will begin at 12pm, the
main area and HQ where the rally is also at Luther Ely Smith
square/Arch grounds as
Soldiers Memorial is still under construction. We have invited Veteran,
Military groups to attend as well as those who would like to show up
with a few
friends, other groups, with families or by themselves as well.
For
those who are unable to do the march itself, we encourage you to bring
lawn chairs if you need one, as benches are scattered throughout the
area. We will
hold a brief rally afterwards with speakers and there will be people in
attendance who can help give and share information for veterans to
provide help if needed, all of this is free of charge information, not
just here but everywhere in America. Do
not ever give someone money to help you file for Veterans Benefits and
or Widow/Survivor Payments, etc.
The Veterans United March and Rally is from 12pm-3pm, but we will begin
the march at 12pm, come back, then hold our rally, during this 12-3pm
window we will have individuals who can help point folks in the right
direction, and or help if they're having questions about what to do for
their Veterans issues and needs.
(1) We've been
asked a
few questions, by a few groups and individuals about Veterans United
March itself. I wanted to post that info just in case
anyone else is wondering too, as most of us have never done anything
like this before. We've been asked if non-veterans are allowed to
march with us. If they're concerned like we are too, then yes, we're
all Americans
so yes you can march with us. Some may not be able to walk the distance
of the march but still want to participate and give support, everyone
is welcome.
We were asked if we had
t-shirts to purchase and or needed to wear to participate in
#VeteransUnitedMarch you do not have to wear a shirt to
participate, but if you would like one here is the secure link to the
online store through Instant Imprints in O'Fallon, MO https://squareup.com/store/veterans-united-of-st-louis
Through the online
store so you can pay for it through the company and have it shipped to
your home, or pick it up at the store in O'Fallon, Missouri ahead of
time so you can wear
them the day of the
march if you would like. Orders
for shirts have to be recieved by this Friday, September 28th 2018 in
order to guarantee getting them for October 6th 2018. That information
is on the online store.
(2) We were asked
if
people needed to purchase tickets, or get a ticket, or do anything
prior to showing up at Luther Ely Smith Park/ Arch grounds area prior
to the march at 12pm. No, there's no tickets,
just show on up, it don't cost anything to participate, we have no
registration, there is a Facebook event so we have an idea to provide
to Law enforcement/Federal/City, Twitter don't have events. You don't
need anything special to get in the area where we're all meeting at, so
it's all good and no worries there. We will have Law enforcement with
us, making sure everyone in attendance is safe, and also commuters, as
we march down Market street, and also at Luther Ely Smith park/Arch
grounds.
(3) This is a
non-partisan event, as stated we
are a Grassroots group of diverse veterans, military, their families,
supporters, and concerned Americans speaking up about issues affecting
us, that will affect us, and trying to find some resolve/answers to it.
(4) Here's some info about Flags/Signs/things you plan on marching with, and attire, etc, so everyone knows too:
(5) Also Federal
and City
said if you make signs just to make sure it's nothing vulgar, graphic,
or promoting/encouraging violence. Other than that if you make a
posterboard and or carry a flag, when we get to Luther Ely Smith park
we are not to push them into the grassy area, but can lay them down,
rest them on the ground if need be, just don't push them into the
grass/ground. To just be respectful of the property, common sense stuff
really, not throwing trash everyone, etc. We will have handicapped
accessible and regular porta potties and a handwashing station on the
far right side of the park on the street, by the sidewalk. We also will
have the idea box for Camp Zulu set up down near the redone Arch
grounds, so that folks can get in and move around to get to it. It'll
be down on that large concrete area near the Arch walkway, where the
Speakers are kinda, that whole area has been redone and has a lot of
room.
(6) So some folks
may
carry a sign, posterboard, or a flag, as seen below, it's up to you
what you want to do. Some people will also just come lightweight, maybe
a waterbottle and small flag, or some may just show up to march. We
will need volunteers to help with the Main line-up of Flags being used
at the beginning of the march.
(7) We will be
meeting
a little earlier to set it up. We have the large American flag, POW-MIA
flag, Freedom Is Not Free flag, US Army flag, US Air Force flag, US
Navy flag, US Marine Corps flag, and the US Coast Guard flag all on
lightweight aluminum poles around 3ft, maybe lil larger (they were
custom done, drove hour to small business as they're made in U.S.A.,
helps local too) with the 3x5 Flags on them.
(8) So anyone that
shows
up who wants to help or served in that Branch, has family serving, is
empty-handed, etc and would like to help carry the Main flag display,
that will be at the beginning of the march line-up your help would be
greatly appreciated.
When we get to Luther Ely Smith park we will have a vehicle there by
Hyatt, we just roll the flags, and put them in the SUV, then go into
Luther Ely Smith park. We also have 100 Parade sized made in the U.S.A.
flags for some veterans who wanted to help carry the larger ones, but
physically couldn't. Also people will show up with their own personal
things they'd like to display some may be flags, I know my Blue Star
flag is coming with
me as I march.
(9) Dress attire:
we are ordering shirts but it is not necessary to wear one in order to
participate, it's
up to you what you want to wear, however you're comfortable and the
weather feels, and we will pass along more information in regards to
t-shirts for those interested in them.
